Quinta Dos Frades Late Harvest 2017

Born from the combination of grapes riper than usual and human persistence that takes more risks than it should, this Late Harvest wine was created. It came from the idea of making a sweet, non-fortified wine, something unusual in Douro, even more so because it is a red wine! It was harvested well into November, due to a dry and sunny autumn, which allowed the grapes to gain extra sugar while maintaining perfect sanitary conditions. The result was a sweet red wine, with a high concentration of sugar, which was not fully fermented, remaining in the final wine. It is one of the few, if not the only, red Late Harvest from Douro. The grapes are foot-trodden in small stainless steel lagares. They are then pressed and the must ferments in small stainless steel vats, with fermentation naturally stopping due to the winter cold.
