Quinta Das Carvalhas Vinha Do Eirol Red 2021

Quinta das Carvalhas is a property of great beauty and spectacularity, with a dominant position on the left bank slope of the Douro River in Pinhão, extending along the slopes of the right bank of the tributary Rio Torto. The oldest written references about the Quinta date back to 1759, with its magnificent Old Vines, planted post-phylloxera, reaching the respectable age of a century. Vinification of Quinta das Carvalhas Vinha do Eirol red: After a surgical manual harvest, the grapes are transported to the winery in 20 kg boxes. After a careful manual selection, the bunches are directed to a small French oak vat where only 30% of the bunches are destemmed and crushed. This is followed by alcoholic fermentation at 24-26ºC, with slight "punching down" and pump-overs done by bucket to seek a good but careful extraction. After alcoholic fermentation, the wine completes malolactic fermentation and ages in used French oak casks and barrels.
