Pasmados Garrafeira White 2015

This wine comes from the exclusive region of Quinta dos Pasmados, in Azeitão. In 1998, the significant decision was made to replace the Chardonnay grape with Viosinho, also changing the origin of Arinto and Esgana from clay-limestone soils to sandy ones. In 2005, with the aim of enhancing the wine's complexity, the Viognier grape, cultivated in our vineyards for over 40 years, was integrated. Around 1999, the winemaker Domingos Soares Franco came across several bottles of Pasmados Branco from 1963 in the cellars. Displaying a yellowish hue that testified to its natural aging, the aroma showed evolution, remaining fine, velvety, and subtly fruity. On the palate, it stands out for its pleasantness and surprisingly well-structured nature, presenting exceptional quality and remarkable acidity. Inspired by this discovery, Domingos Soares Franco then decided to test the production of a Pasmados with aging potential, taking the 1963 vintage as a reference. From the best harvests, small quantities of bottles are kept in the cellar, later being marketed years after with the almost forgotten designation of Garrafeira. Also rescuing the Garrafeira classification, thus was born the Pasmados Garrafeira. #JMF
