Periquita White 2024

The history of Periquita dates back to the very beginning of José Maria da Fonseca's own history, when the company's founder, Mr. José Maria da Fonseca, bought the Cova da Periquita estate around 1840. It was on this estate, now almost swallowed up by urban development, that José Maria da Fonseca planted the first grapes of the Castelão variety, which he himself had brought from Estremadura. The wine produced at Cova da Periquita immediately proved to be the best in the region, leading other owners to ask José Maria da Fonseca for cuttings of that variety to plant on their own estates. In this way, the wine became known in Azeitão as Periquita wine, and began to be marketed by José Maria da Fonseca as Periquita. José Maria da Fonseca registered the Periquita brand in 1941. For this reason, Periquita is currently the oldest Portuguese table wine brand marketed, having gained, over time, growing popularity in Portugal and considerable notoriety in markets such as Sweden, Brazil, the United States of America, Canada, Denmark, and Norway. Periquita White was first launched with the 2004 vintage in the Swedish market and in Brazil with the 2005 vintage. In Portugal, this wine was launched with the 2006 vintage.
