Periquita Rose 2023

The history of Periquita dates back to the very beginning of José Maria da Fonseca itself, when the company's founder, Mr. José Maria da Fonseca, bought the Cova da Periquita estate around 1840. It was on this estate, now almost swallowed up by urban development, that José Maria da Fonseca planted the first Castelão grapevines, which he himself had brought from Estremadura. In 1850, José Maria da Fonseca mentioned the existence of Periquita in his records. The wine produced at Cova da Periquita immediately proved to be the best in the region, leading other owners to ask José Maria da Fonseca for cuttings of that grape variety to plant on their own estates. In this way, the wine became known in Azeitão as Periquita wine, and it began to be marketed by José Maria da Fonseca as Periquita. José Maria da Fonseca registered the Periquita brand in 1941. For this reason, Periquita is currently the oldest Portuguese table wine brand marketed, having gained, over time, growing popularity in Portugal and considerable notoriety in markets such as Sweden, Brazil, the United States of America, Canada, Denmark, and Norway. Periquita Rosé was launched for the first time with the 2007 harvest, aimed at the Portuguese consumer who now has in the Periquita family an offer for the most varied consumption occasions.
