Quinta de la Rosa Red Wine Production: It was a dry year, too hot for Europe and the same for Portugal. Wildfires devastated the countryside, as everything was dry. Vines planted at low altitude and with southern exposure suffered the most, while the white grape vines, located at higher altitude, were not affected. Weather forecasts did not indicate rain - the last time it rained was in the last week of June. One week later, temperatures dropped and promoted a more balanced phenolic ripening, better aromas, and greater flavor complexity. The old high-altitude vines with northern exposure, given the temperature range and that they are usually harvested later, reached excellent quality. Alcohol levels tended to be higher and acidity lower than usual, although there was no significant evidence of over-ripeness. It was a year that allowed almost all varieties to be ready for harvest at the same time, which led to a logistical challenge and increased workload in both wineries. Once again, winemaker Jorge Moreira was responsible for evaluating the ideal ripeness and determining the harvest time.
